What To Prepare?
As you are preparing your teams, please note:
-
Participants and advisors will receive a reusable water bottle as we are a no-plastic bottle campus and there will be water stations where they can refill their bottles. A sticker or something to help make their bottle identifiable may be useful!
Dress Code
-
Service Day: please ensure participants bring clothing and footwear that is both comfortable and respectful of the local culture for the service day. Specifically, everyone should wear long pants/trousers on this day and everyone will receive a t-shirt to wear on Service Day. Also, please note that civilians wearing military fatigues is illegal in Uganda.
-
Closing Ceremony and Film Festival: students may want to bring some semi-formal clothing to wear on both these evenings.
Money
Participants can bring some money to spend at the craft fair and to purchase extra snacks/drinks, however, a morning snack, lunch and dinner will be provided each day of the summit.
Student-Led Workshop Preparation
If you have submitted a workshop proposal (and it's listed on the workshop page of this website) please remember the following as you prepare your workshop:
-
Student-led workshops will be 1 hour in length and there will be 15 minutes to prepare and set up prior to the workshop.
-
The focus should be on a global issue OR a school project/campaign OR something related to sustainable development.
-
Basic workshop supplies (flip chart paper, post-it notes, markers, projector and sound) will be provided in each workshop room. If you require specialised resources, please bring them with you.
-
Workshops should include an interactive component: simulation, game, activity(something active where people are moving). Ex: Make a game with blocks on the
ground to create an interactive and kinesthetic experience; Ex: create a water walk
with big jugs, rope and water if you're educating participants about access to clean
water. -
Workshops should be informative: students should learn something valuable.
-
Workshops should pass on important tips and info: if your school project is awesome, teach others how to replicate it.
-
Workshops should be fun.
-
Workshops should allow everyone, in some way, to speak and be heard.
-
Workshops could include a handout or resource link (some sort of take-away so people can reflect or capture their learning).
-
Workshops could include digital resources that students can use later.
-
Workshops should be led by specific students or groups of 2-4 students. Advisors need to oversee and support their groups to prepare for the workshops.
